Obituary: Lars Thorstenson Strande was born Sept. 8th, 1849 in Gran Prestegjeld, at Hadeland, Norway. He came to America in 1872 and spent the first few years in Minnesota. On Dec. 6, 1873 at Preston, Minn., he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Sophia Peterson, the wife who has been a helpmate through life. They made their home at Whalan, Minn., for a time but came to this locality in June, 1879. He took a homestead out in the neighborhood now known as North Preston, a few miles northeast of this place, which has ever since been their home. He was 61 years 7 months and 21 days old at death. Six children were born to the family, but the eldest, a daughter, died in infancy. Besides the wife and five children, Emil, Mrs. Matilda Thompson, Amanda, Ida, and Anton, deceased is survived by three brothers and one sister. Two brothers continue to live in Norway, but one brother, Even Strande, lives in Ellensburg, Washington, and the sister, Mrs. O.A. Onsager, at Waukon, Iowa, where he was visiting when taken with his last sickness. Funeral services were held from the home at 1 o’clock and from the North Preston Lutheran church at 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon. He was a member of that church and it is estimated that at least one hundred teams loaded with neighbors and friends were in the funeral procession. The sermon was preached by his pastor, Rev. W. B. Dahl. The floral offerings were many and very appropriate. The burial took place in the cemetery near the church. All acquaintances extend the kindest of sympathy to the relatives.
