Description	:	The funeral services of Mrs. Emily Billings Lane, 77, who died last Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 3, at the West Union hospital after weeks of suffering, was conducted at 1:30 Friday at the Burnham funeral home lay the Rev. W. H. Mitchell. Burial was in a country cemetery five miles south of Stanley. West Union relatives accompanied the remains to the final resting place. Emily Billings Lane was the daughter of Richard and Mary Billings, and was born in Cornwall, England, Oct. 28, 1861. At the time of her death she was aged seventy seven years, eleven months; and six days. In her early childhood her parents came to Iowa and settled in Buchanan county. On Sept. 6, 1883. she was united in marriage to John Lane, who died Sept. 3, 1894. In 1895 Mrs. Lane moved to West Union, where she continued to reside until her death. To Mr. and Mrs were born three children. One son, Harvey, died Feb. 7, 1927. Left to mourn her departure are one son, Floyd Lane, West Union; and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Murphy, Montevideo, Minn.; also one sister, Mrs. Maria Lane, Aurora; one brother, Will Billings, Independence; her daughters-in-law, Mrs. Floyd Lane and Mrs. Harvey Lane, both of West Union; son-in-law, James H. Murphy, Montevideo, Minn.; two granddaughters, Donna Maxine Lane and Mrs. Herbert Ash, both of West Union; and one great grandson, Lane Ash,- beside other relatives and friends. Attending the funeral were the Independence relatives, including a niece, Mrs. Neva Holgate; and a brother-in-law, Mr. Lane, and his daughter, Eunice Lane. West Union Argo - Gazette 10/11/1939
