Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Emma Helm was born June 6, 1919, at McClusky. She was the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Plienis) Helm. She grew up and attended rural school near McClusky. Emma married Theodore "Ted" Lauer on Nov. 15, 1937, in McClusky. They lived and farmed south of McClusky for 40 years. They retired and moved into their newly built home in McClusky. Ted died on July 21, 1998. She moved into the Sheridan Memorial Home in 2003 and in 2008, she moved into Northland Community Health Center in Turtle Lake. Emma attended the United Methodist Church in McClusky. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and playing bingo in her spare time. Her greatest joy was cooking and baking for Ted and family, and looking forward to her children and grandchildren coming home on weekends. Emma is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Les, Minot, Jerry and Barb, McClusky, and Rodney, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Inez and Jerry Krein, Bismarck, and Betty Allen, Minot; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her sisters, Edna Brackett, McClusky, and Pauline Broeckel, Bismarck; and her brother, Albert Helm, McClusky. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Lydia Schaeffer, Martha Roth and Annetta Murray; and seven brothers, Edwin, Adolph, Fred, Christ, Julius, Walter and Arnold.
