Mrs. Kunce’s body was taken Sunday noon to the Meyerhoff & Pitman funeral home where it remains until Tuesday morning when it was returned to the Kunce home. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Villisca Presbyterian Church with John Dearborn of the Red Oak Christian Science Church in charge He was assisted by the Rev. L. B. Carpenter of Villisca. Pall bearers were Charles Posten, Vern Robinson, Vern Lewis, Estel Werner, Reuben Westerlund, and Frank Himiler and burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Emily Jane Steward was born November 26, 1860 in Ross County, Ohio. Her early girlhood was spent with her people in Ohio and Indiana. At the age of 15, she came to Iowa, making the journey across the prairies in a covered wagon Her father purchased a eighty acre farm in Taylor County, where the family settled. Mrs. Kunce received her early education in rural schools and afterwards attended high school in Nodaway. In 1882 she taught the McMillian School five miles south of Nodaway. She was married to Tazwell Kunce at Bedford, Iowa on May 25, 1882 and spent all but three years of her married life in Taylor and Montgomery Counties. Five sons were born to this union, of two whom, Virgil and Lew, died in childhood in 1895. Mrs. Kunce was a member of the Christian Church during the early years of her married life but for the last twenty-fee years she had embraced the Christian Science faith. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Benson, Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Google, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Eastman, and Mrs. Robert Butke, all of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. McPall, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mansfield, and Mrs. Vera Dunn, all of Malvern; and Melvin Neely of Atlantic.
