On July 2 of this year Mrs. Fruendt, with fellow members of the Ladies Aid of St. James Lutheran Church, attended Guest Day at Marengo. While there she suffered a stroke and was at once taken to the Memorial hospital there, where she peacefully fell asleep on the above mentioned date. Mrs. Emma Catherine Fruendt was born Dec. 30, 1885 in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Franz Burke and his wife Anna Schlesselman. On Jan. 17, 1886 she was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Victor, and it was in the same church that, after attending the Christian Day School, she renewed her baptismal vow in the rite of confirmation. On Feb. 11, 1909, also in St. Johns Lutheran Church, Miss Emma Burke was united in holy wedlock with Henry Fruendt. This union was blessed with seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Fruendt lived with their family on a farm near Guernsey, Iowa, until they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, when they retired and moved to Victor in 1949, where her husband departed this life in 1955 and where Mrs. Fruendt made her home until her death. Mrs. Emma Fruendt, with her husband and children, was a zealous and faithful member of St. John's Lutheran congregation and after moving to Victor joined St. James Lutheran Church, where she was keenly interested in the work of the church and faithful in her attendance at the services and the Sacrament of the Altar. At the time of her death she was an honorary member of the St. James Lutheran Ladies Aid Society. Emma Fruendt was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Fruendt in 1955, her parents, one brother Louis Burke, and two grandchildren. She is survived by her seven children: Alma, Mrs. Henry Meyer of Deep River, Iowa, Arnold, Guernsey, Mrs. J. C. Underwood, Tyler, Tex., Walter, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Otto, Victor, Iowa, Everett, Guernsey, Iowa, and Viola, Mrs.Herbert G. Meyer, Jr. of Victor; her brother, William Burke of Guernsey; her sisters, Mrs. Minnie Stelter, Clyman, Wis., Maria, Mrs. William Jahlas, Deep River, and Clara, Mrs. George Keller, Victor; 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. H. Schroeder in St. James Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17. The three oldest grandsons, Wayne, Kenneth and Donald Meyer, sang "Beautiful Saviour" and "My Course Is Run," accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Cloyd Lyman. In charge of the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Schirm and Mrs. and Mrs. David Foster. Pallbearers were the four sons, Arnold, Walter, Otto and Everett Fruendt, and two sons-in-law, Henry Meyer and Herbert G. Meyer, Jr. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.
