In the fall of 1952, Mr. Fruendt suffered a stroke which left his right side paralyzed, causing him to be confined to his home. On August 10, he was stricken again with a stroke from which he failed to recover, but ended in his peacefully falling asleep in Jesus on the above mentioned date. Henry Carl Fruendt was born near Victor, Iowa on Oct. 22, 1881, the son of Henry Fruendt, Sr. and his wife Katherine nee Diehn. On Dec. 18, 1881 he was baptized in the name of the Triune God in St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Victor. It was in St. John's Lutheran Church where he on March 29, 1896 renewed his baptismal vow in the rite of confirmation after receiving his early Christian and secular schooling in St. John's Lutheran Christian day school. On Feb. 11, 1909, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mr. Fruendt was united in holy wedlock with Miss Emma Burke. this union was blessed with seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Fruendt lived with their growing family on a farm near Guernsey until they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, when they retired and have lived in Victor since 1949 where Mr. Fruendt departed this life after his lingering illness on Tuesday morning of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Fruendt and their children were zealous and faithful members of St. John's Lutheran congregation and after moving to Victor in 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Fruendt joined St. James, where they also took a keen interest in the affairs of the congregation in their faithful attendance both in the church services and the Sacrament of the Altar. During the past two years of his illness, his pastor found this same faithfulness awaiting him in calling at his home and bedside. Mr. Fruendt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren. He is survived by his faithful wife, Mrs. Emma Fruendt; his seven children: Alma (Mrs. Henry Meyer), Arnold H. Fruendt, both of Guernsey, Mathilda (Mrs. J. C. Underwood), Tyler, Texas, Walter L. Fruendt, Cedar Rapids, Otto W. Fruendt, Victor, Everett C. Fruendt, Guernsey and Viola (Mrs. Herbert Meyer, Jr.) of Los Angeles, Calif.; also one brother, Herman Fruendt, one sister, Mrs. Frieda Wiedemeier; 18 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon at St. James Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.H. Schroeder. Mrs. Ralph Keller and Mrs. Richard Bowman sang "My Course is Run" and "Beautiful Savior," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Cloyd Lyman. Mr. and Mrs. David Foster and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Maschmann took care of the flowers. The pallbearers were Wayne Meyer, Henry Meyer, Arnold, Walter, Otto and Everett Fruendt. Burial was the in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
