Howard, 72, Passes at Spokane Home. SPOKANE, July 24, - (AP) - Mrs. Emma K. Howard, born as one of the first white children in Washington territory seventy-two years ago, and who has lived in the territory and state during her entire life, is dead today. The aged pioneer died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Daughter, here. Mrs. Howard was born at Port Gamble, near Whidby island, on Puget Sounty, in 1856, of a mother who was the first white woman in that town and a father, Hill Harmon, who came around the Horn and settle on Puget Sound in 1852, became a well-known Indian fighter and was at one time territorial treasure of Washington. Coming to Eastern Washington more than fifty years ago, Mrs. Howard spent many years of her life near St. Johns, Wash., where the family still operates a farm. Mrs. Howard was the first wife of Justice George P. Howard, of Colfax, Wash. Besides Mrs. Daughters, Mrs. Howard is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Helen Amos, Elk River, Idaho, and Mrs. Emma Frances Hannum, Spokane; one sister, Mrs. Ella Hoover, Spokane, and five sons, Philip Howard, St. Johns; Julian Howard and Harold Howard, Mount Vernon; C. M. Howard, Tacoma, and Robert Howard, Portland. The body probably will be taken to Colfax for burial. Thank to Contributor: Audrey (46877347)
