Read More	SOURCE: The Nebaska Signal, October 4, 1934, page 1 NELSON, EMMA OTILLA—Emma Otilla Peterson, daughter of Johanes and Sarah Peterson, was born at Kalmar Lan, Sweden, February 13, 1858. She departed this life at Geneva, Neb., September 28, 1934, having reached the age of 76 years, 7 months and 22 days. At the age of eleven years, she came to America with her parents and lived at Galesburg, Ill. She was married to Alfred Nelson and to this union eleven children were born, of whom seven are deceased. The husband preceded her to that Promised Land July 10, 1906. In 1879, with her husband and son, she came to Fillmore County. Here they made their home, reared their family and endured the toils and joys of pioneer life. At an early date she gave her life and service to Jesus, whom she always loved to serve ad praise, and in whose love she remained to the last when she passed to her reward. She was a faithful member of the Chelsea United Brethren Church and upon removing from their farm to Geneva; she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was an ever faithful and earnest member. Her greatest joy was in the service of her Master. She leaves to mourn her departure, her son, J. A. E. Nelson of Geneva, four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Fox and Mrs. Sarah Miller of Geneva, Mrs. Tillie Anderson of Ong and Mrs. Irene Brainard of Omaha, one brother, W. C. Peterson of Geneva, her grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also leaves other relatives, her many friends and neighbors, whom she always loved to meet. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, September 30, by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Shoaf, of the Methodist Church. Scripture was read and prayer offered at her late residence and the service proper took place at the church. Mrs. Oscar Nelson and Mrs. Verna Edington, granddaughters, sang, "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer." The flowers were many and exquisite. The casket bearers were Oscar Nelson, Earl Fox, Paul Anderson, Floyd Anderson, Melvin Anderson and Royal Anderson, all six of these boys being Grandma's grandsons. Burial was in the Geneva cemetery beside her husband and daughter.
