Emma Viola Piper, daughter of John and Martha Piper, was born March 6, 1871, in Clarke county, and departed this life, at a local hospital, Sept. 10, 1949, at the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 5 days. She was, the youngest child of a family of eight children, and spent her entire life on a farm in Clarke county with the exception of the last few years, spent in Osceola. Miss Piper attended college at Valparaiso, Ind., later teaching in the rural schools of Clarke county. Emma confessed her faith in Christ when a young woman and united with the Frame Methodist church during Rev. Tillotson's revival meeting. During her residence in Osceola she attended services at the Trinity church. It was always her greatest desire to help others and she remained in the home to care for her aged mother until her mother passed away. Later she made a home for her brother, Henry, and cared for him during his prolonged illness. Left to mourn her passing are, one brother George William, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
