EMMA WILSON DIED WEDNESDAY AT HER HOME HERE Emma Wagner Davis, fourth daughter of Edmund and Susie Davis, was born January 16, 1856, in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, and departed this life on July 30th, 1930, at her home in Chariton at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 14 days. At the age of 6 years she moved with her parents to English township, Lucas county, Iowa. She was one of the pioneers of Lucas county, knowing all the hardships of living in a land without railroads until she was almost grown. She made a strenuous effort to gain an education, went through the Chariton high school and fitted herself for the teaching profession. After several years of successful teaching she was united in marriage to Hiram Wilson on September 25, 1879. They immediately took up their residence at Alma, Nebraska, where they resided for over a year, returning to English township and lived on the farm near Renfro school house until she moved to Chariton 16 years ago, one year after the death of her companion. Seven children came to gladden the home. Chester, of Woodburn, Iowa; Henry, of Trenton, Missouri; Mrs. Lura Wright, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Mrs. Madge Ferguson, Mrs. Alda Agan, all of Chariton. One daughter, Alma, preceded her to the better land at the age of 5 years. She also reared one granddaughter, Blanche, the daughter of Mrs. Wilson's son, Henry, whose mother died at her birth. She also leaves 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. As she lived near most of her grandchildren she was very close to their lives and will be greatly missed by them. At an early age she gave her life to Christ, and always kept the faith. When her children were young she helped organize a Sunday school at Renfro. Her home was always open to all church workers. In after years she helped organize the church of Christ at Central, where Williamson is now located. She was one of the telephone pioneers, keeping the switch office for several years, where she made many friends by her kind ways. Although she was handicapped physically, she accomplished more with one hand than many people do with two, and was ever ready to lend assistance to others. Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. Alfred Mill, were held at the Christian church in Chariton on Friday forenoon at ten o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Brownlee cemetery by the side of her husband. Her five grandsons, Edmund, Mahlon, Harlan, Keith and Ivyl Wilson, and nephew, Donald Stone, acted as pall bearers at her funeral. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
