Son of Adam Croesus Wilson and Mary Catherine Willis OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 12, 1914 HIRAM WILSON Hiram Wilson was born on the 5th of August, 1857, at Dallas, Marion county, Iowa. His death occurred on the 8th day of March, 1914, at his home in English township, Lucas County, Iowa. He was fifty-six years, seven months and three days old. His parents were A. C. and Mary Wilson, one of whom, his mother, survives him. When quite small he moved with his parents from Marion county to English township, Lucas county, Iowa, where he resided, with the exception of a short time, until his death. This was in 1879 when he moved to Nebraska, returning in 1880. On the 25th of September, 1879, he was married to Emma Davis, of Lucas county, and these two have lived happily together until his death. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive. The little one who has gone on was Alma, a twin sister to Alda, who died at the early age of five years. Those surviving him and left to mourn the loss of their loved one are his wife, six children, seven grandchildren, his mother, a brother and sister. The children are: Chester A., of Chariton; Elmer E., of English township; Henry C., of Leon, Iowa; Madge Ferguson, of Chariton; Lura and Alda Wilson, who still reside with their mother. Mention must be made of little Blanche Wilson, his granddaughter, who has lived in the home all of her life and was the apple of his eye. His mother, Mary Wilson, and brother, J. W. Wilson, reside in Chariton, while his sister, Mrs. J. A. Gibson, lives at Alma, Neb. With his wife, in the year 1885, he joined the Christian church when the members met in the Renfrew schoolhouse. For the remainder of his life he remained true to and served consistently in this church. His end was lingering. For eight years he had suffered from sugar diabetes. During all of this time he had always kept a brave front and was always bright and cheerful, few suspecting the load he was carrying. The end was not unexpected and was quiet when it came. He was uncomplaining until the end and bore up wonderfully all the time he was ill. During all of his life he tried to live a consistent and pure one. He attended to his own affairs and everywhere his name is spoken of with respect. He was a loved husband, father and friend. No one was more ready to help in time of trouble, no one more willing to lend a helping hand. And now he has gone from our midst, yet we would not wish him back, for we know and feel that he is at rest. We leave his life to return to our own daily rounds the better and more able to live our own life. Funeral services were held at the Central Christian church on Tuesday forenoon at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. S. P. Williamson, after which interment was made in the Brownlee cemetery.
