Description	:	Emma was the daughter of Jacob and Ursula Weisbrod of Fenton, Iowa. Emma was born July 11, 1879. When she was a little girl she was often called upon to care for her younger cousins, in their homes, for their mothers helped with the work in the fields. Emma was born July 11, 1879. When she was a little girl she was often called upon to care for her younger cousins, in their homes, for their mothers helped with the work in the fields. Emma attended country school and Charles City College. Before her marriage she worked in a dry goods store at Hurt, Iowa. On the 20th of June, 1900, John Light married Emma Weisbrod. Witnesses of the marriage were Anna Light and Ed Weisbrod.. After a short honeymoon trip, the couple lived with John's family for a time. Later they moved to a farm about a mile and a half west of Fenton. On March 1, 1903 they purchased a farm from R.C. Sturgeon in Palo Alto County. This farm has been known as the John Light farm since that time. On October 15, 1903 a baby girl was born to this couple. She was named Viola Grace Light. German was spoken in the home until Viola was four years old. At that point, her parents decided she should learn English before starting school, so they started speaking English. On November 10,1910 a second baby girl was born to John and Emma Light. A doctor was called for this birth. He had a long wait, and finally fell asleep with his head resting upon something soft on the kitchen table. He was quite embarassed to discover that he had used a loaf of freshly baked bread for a pillow. This baby was named Faith Ursula Lela Light. After 35 years of hard work, laughter, and tears, this couple retired. They moved to Fenton which was their home for the rest of their lives. Their son-in-law and daughter, Melvin and Faith Mansager moved onto the home place. Both Emma and John became more active in church and community affairs after leaving the farm. Emma taught a Sunday school class and worked in the Women's Society of the church. She also enjoyed her membership in the Fenton Woman's Club. John was on the church board and was a director of the Fenton Elevator. John and Emma Light's most cherished dream was to be able to go south for the winter after retirement. That dream was realized. They spent several winters in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where they enjoyed the hot baths. They also went to Long Beach, California for many winters. Those were the golden years.
