St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Anthon under direction of Walter-Armstrong Funeral Service. Mr. McDermott was born May 1, 1915, in Anthon, the son of Thomas J. and Margaret V. (McKenna) McDermott. He was a lifelong Anthon area resident. He farmed, did local trucking, operated a corn sheller, worked on road construction and was a salesman for Westendorf Manufacturing. Emmett spent brief periods in eastern Iowa and Rockford, Illinois. He also sold cars for several dealerships, worked for Brant Farmacy and sold cemetery headstones. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto. Survivors include a brother and his wife, Joseph and Carol of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a sister, Alice Donovan of Monticello. He was preceded by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
