Mr. McDermott, the son of Thomas and Margaret McDermott, was born October 6, 1907, at Lawton, Oklahoma, and came to Anthon as a small boy. He moved to Oto nine years ago to buy and operate the Ideal Cafe. He married Beulah Jerman on May 25, 1933, in Sioux City. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Oto and the Knights of Columbus, and was a past school director of Miller Township. Survivors include the widow, three daughters, Mrs. Gerald Grant of Castana, Iowa; Mrs. Vance Raines of Mora, Minnesota; and Mrs. Roger Yockey of Smithland; two sisters, Mrs. Vincent Donovan of Onslow, Iowa; and Mrs. John Burton of Rockford, Illinois; five brothers, Leo of Oto, Bernard of Sioux City, Emmett and Vincent both of Anthon, and Joseph of Indianapolis, Indiana; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters and one brother. All business places in Oto were closed during the services for Mr. McDermott.
