Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto with the Rev. Gerald Zensen officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Anthon with military graveside rites conducted by Henry McKenna Post 651, American Legion of Oto. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. in Walter Funeral Home in Anthon. Mr. McDermott was born Oct. 23, 1908, in Anthon. He farmed in the Glenwood, Minn., area. On July 24, 1933, he married Loretta E. "Mick" Livermore in Anthon. He worked for Woodbury County in the maintenance department and also was a truck driver. He lived in California for 1 1/2 years and moved to Oto in 1944 where he was a rural mail carrier. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then returned to Oto where he continued as mail carrier until his retirement in 1979. Mrs. McDermott died Jan. 21, 1978. He had spent several winters in Texas. Mr. McDermott was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 2839 of Danbury, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly of Sioux City, American Legion, and Rural Letter Carriers Association. Survivors include two sons, Jerome F. of Deer Park, Wash., and Thomas L. of Oto; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Delores) DeBlauw of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Robert (Dianne) Dixon of Little Rock, Ark., and Ms. Mary (Marc) Bernard McDermott of Sioux City; two brothers, Emmett of Oto and Joseph of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Donovan of Monticello and Mrs. John (Rita) Burton of Rockford, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
