Rumold Wayne Winston Rumold was born May 11, 1919, at Dillon, Kansas, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rumold, and passed away at Asbury hospital in Salina Friday morning, March 7, 1947, at 6:45, at the age of 27 years, 9 months, 24 days following a long illness. His condition became acute and he entered the hospital on February 28. Wayne received his elementary education in the Dillon grade school and graduated from the Hope high school with the class of 1937. He attended school at Kansas State College in Manhattan for four years, but entered the service of his country before completion of his school work. He enlisted in the Naval Air Service at Kansas City on October 19, 1941, receiving his commission as ensign in July 1942 at Pensacola, Florida. After serving on patrol duty on the Atlantic seaboard for some months, he was forced to enter several hospitals for treatment. He was given a medical discharge in October 1944, and returned to the family home south of Dillon. He was married to Velma Grant at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, January 6, 1945. A few months after his marriage he returned to Kansas to establish his home in Abilene while engaged in farming with his father. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Velma Rumold of Abilene; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rumold; one sister, Mrs. Verden Long of Ramona; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by an infant brother. He was baptized by Rev. Glasscock May 26, 1935 and became a full member of the Hope Methodist church on June 2nd of the same year. He was a splendid Christian young man; ambitious beyond his strength; devoted to his wife and loved ones; and patient and uncomplaining in his intense suffering to the end. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the home of his parents and at 2:30 at the Hope Methodist church with the Rev. J.A. McClellan, officiating. Mrs. Merl Palmer, Miss Myrta Boyd, Mr. George Snively and Mr. Merl Palmer offered special music at the services, with Robert Hatfield accompanhing them at the piano. Pall Beareres included: Charles Pray, Lowell Davidson, Harvey Gantenbein, Marcellus Sandow, Wendell Wuthnow and Harley Jacobson. Interment was made in the family lot at Ashton cemetery. Wayne Rumold, 27, a veteran of World War II, died Friday morning at the Asbury hospital in Salina. He is survived by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rumold of Hope and one sister, Mrs. Verdan Long. Funeral announcements will be made later from the Wuthnow Funderal Home at Hope.
