Read More	Erna Katherine (Friedrichsen) Schmidt (1895 - 1986) Erna Katherine Schmidt was born on December 13, 1895 in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Anna Gottburg Friedrichsen. She died Sunday afternoon, February 23, 1986 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 90 years. Erna spent her childhood years on her family's farm in Otter Creek Township. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. She received her formal education in the Otter Creek School No. 2. Erna was united in marriage to John F. Schmidt on January 23, 1918 in Schleswig by Rev. Wetzler. Together they made their home on a farm in Otter Creek Township until retirement in 1946 when they made their home in Odebolt. In 1948 they moved to Schleswig. John and Erna celebrated fifty years of marriage in 1968. John died September 22, 1972. Erna continued to make Schleswig her home until spending the winter months at Eventide in 1974. She made Eventide her permanent residence in 1976. In addition to her parents and husband, Erna was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl, John, Marvin, Fred, and Alfred, her sister Ella Wellendorf, and her sister Marguerite in infancy. Survivors included her sister, Violet Moeller, of Denison, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Leon G. Triggs officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the services with Mr. Henry Henningsen serving as soloist. Hymns for the services included Just As I Am and In The Garden. Serving as pallbearers for the services were Robert J. Moeller, Richard Moeller, Charles Bandow, Leslie Friedrichsen, Herbert Wellendorf, and Daryl Miller. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
