Description	:	Ernest August Lentfer was born February 3, 1862, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 19. He was baptized and confirmed while yet in Germany. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ahrens by Rev. Henry C. Abernethy at West Blue, Neb., June 3, 1865. This union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four daughters. Read More	Ernest August Lentfer was born February 3, 1862, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 19. He was baptized and confirmed while yet in Germany. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ahrens by Rev. Henry C. Abernethy at West Blue, Neb., June 3, 1865. This union was blessed with seven children, three sons and four daughters. Mr. Lentfer was engaged in farming near Fairmont for many years and retired some 35 years ago. For the past 13 years he made his home with his son, Ernest W. Lentfer, of Route 2 at Wilton Junction, Ia. Mr. Lentfer had been ill the past four months, having a stroke on Good Friday and passing away a week later, on April 6. He attained the age of 94 years, 2 months and 3 days. He is survived by one son, Ernest W., of Wilton Junction, Ia.; two daughters, Mrs. Louis Lentfer of Herman, Minn., and Mrs. Edward Stolldorf of Davenport, Ia.; one brother, Henry, of Anita, Ia.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, March 25, 1918; two sons and two daughters; one grandson; two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 10, at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, south of Grafton, of which Mr. Lentfer was one of the original members. Pastor Otto H. Wittig of Shickley officiated, basing his remarks on Gen. 25:8 "He gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people." Mrs. Everett Benson presided at the piano, and Mrs. L. C. Gratopp and Mrs. Art Busse Sang "Nearer, My God to Thee," and "I'm But a Stranger Here." The pallbearers were Ernest Gerken, Emil Gerken, Chris Biester, Will Bohlen, Fred Witte and William D. Smith. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
