Read More	Ernest D. “Ernie” Boynton Ernie Boynton, a lifelong resident of Ferndale, California, a breeder of Jersey cattle, and a veteran of World War II, passed away quietly on October 1, 2006, with his daughter and son at his side. Ernie attended Ferndale schools and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis. He owned and operated a dairy on the family homestead for all his adult life-first in partnership with his father, Rollin, and later on his own. He married his lifelong love, Letha Arlene Robarts, on June 25, 1948. Ernie and Letha had two children: Bob, currently of Denver, Colorado, and Anne, currently of Chicago, Illinois. Letha passed away in 1975. Ernie was born on April 9, 1923, on the family farm, the son of Rollin and Mabel Boynton. He has 3 younger siblings; Don and Paul Boynton both of Ferndale and Joan Frakes of Pullman, Washington. Ernie has 3 grandchildren: Abbie Metherd and Jessica Boynton both of Denver, Colorado, and Bryan Boynton of Bozeman, Montana. He has 2 great grandchildren: William and Mary Jane Metherd, both of Denver, Colorado. Ernie has 12 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews. Those who knew Ernie know of his gentle spirit, kind heart, devotion to his Catholic faith, and his generous public service throughout his adult life. At the time of his death he was the President of Ferndale Sr. Citizens, Inc. Visitation will be at Citizens’ Mortuary (Chapel of the Ferns) in Ferndale, on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The Holy Rosary will be said at Assumption Church of Ferndale on Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Assumption Church. Interment will be at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Eureka. Casket bearers will be Abbie Metherd, Jessica Boynton, Bryan Boynton, Mike Boynton (nephew), Larry Boynton (nephew), and Matt Boynton (nephew). Honorary bearers will be his nephews, Frank Boynton, Jack Boynton, David Frakes, and Aaron Frakes; and friends, Bill Flowers, Sean Mauney, and Roy Strong. For those who wish to make a donation in Ernie’s memory, the family suggests Hospice of Humboldt (www.hospiceofhumboldt.org or 707-445-8443) or CARE (www.care.org).
