Read More	EARNEST R CASEY US ARMY 252nd Engr Combat Battalion WORLD WAR II OCT 7 1924 ___ APR 19 2006 Ernest Randolph Casey, 81, a longtime resident of Salem, departed this life on April 19, 2006, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV. He was born October 7, 1924, in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Reverend Nathan Lee and Lulu Randolph Casey. As a child, Ernest and his family lived in Dunbar, Tunnelton and Pine Grove, where Ernest graduated from high school in 1941. Before entering the service of his country as a U.S. Army engineer, Ernest spent one year as a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College. During the European battles of World War II, Ernest's battalion served with the Army of General George S. Patton. Among other things, they built bridges under enemy fire and cleared dangerous mine fields in Germany. After the war, Ernest lived with his family in Huntington, Lumberport, and Salem, WV. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where he for many years served as usher. He enjoyed writing poetry, which he submitted to competition. His nieces and nephews appreciated his patience teaching them to play checkers and chess. Although he never completely recovered from the disability he suffered during World War II, he was of great assistance to his parents with whom he lived in Salem until they passed away. Ernest lived the last months of his life at Walton Inn in Walton, WV. Surviving Mr. Casey are one brother, Rev. Joseph Casey and his wife Martha of Salisbury, NC; one sister, Virginia Lee Gleason of Springfield, MO. His six nieces and nephews and their children live in many parts of the country, and they've all shared an interest in his welfare as a disabled war veteran. The family would like to thank Mrs. Karla Collins of Salem for her caring concern toward Ernest in his final years. Interment will follow in the Salem Knights of Pythias Memorial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the local veterans organization. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 22, 2006, from 10 a.m. until time of service.
