Reck Funeral Home, Miller was in charge of arrangements. Ernest Victor Clement was born December 20, 1917 in Allen Count, Ohio to Hubert and Elizabeth (Klausing) Clement. He came with his parents to South Dakota when he was eight years old. He attended school in Polo. Along with his sister and brother, he returned to Ohio during the Depression to seek employment. He was employed at General Motors in the Frigidaire division in Dayton, Ohio. On July 2, 1941, he married Eileen Harpster at St. John's Catholic Church in Delphos, Ohio. He was drafted into the military in March 1943. He served in the European Theater, participating in battles of Normandy, Norhtern France and the Rhineland, earning three bronze stars. He returned from the war in October 1945 and moved with this family to South Dakota. They farmed in Hand County until 1976. They moved to Miller and enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the county F.H.A. board and township school boards and was a VFW member. Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Miller; five daughters, Judy (Craig) Sisk of Miller, LInda (James) Greene of Columbia, Md., Pamela Breeland of Louisville, y., Patricia (Marc) Schwartz of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Mary (Thomas) Dillon of Union, N.J.; three sons, David (Hilda) Clement of Redland, Calif., Jack (Jean) Clement of Longwood, Fla., Jeff (Renee) Clement of St. Lawrence; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Hubert of Miller, John of Arizona, Paul of Faulkton, Louie of Orient; one sister, Lenore Venjohn; one sister-in-law, Minnie Clement of Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Valeta Hardes, two brothers, Bernard Clement and Richard Clement who was killed in action in WWII during the Battle of Anzio Beach in Italy; and an infant great-grandson, Brayden Borichewski.
