Description	:	Ernest Wadsworth Smith, son of Ernest B. and Daisy D. (Dawson) Smith was born April 6, 1920, in Fullerton, Nebraska, and passed away February 18, 1987, in the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 12 days. While still a young boy he moved with his parents to Hollis, Kansas, and lived there until early manhood. He attended Hollis Elementary School. (Dawson) Smith was born April 6, 1920, in Fullerton, Nebraska, and passed away February 18, 1987, in the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 12 days. While still a young boy he moved with his parents to Hollis, Kansas, and lived there until early manhood. He attended Hollis Elementary School. After a short time in the army he received an honorable discharge from San Francisco, California. He then returned to Concordia, Kansas, and married Vivian Marie Slaughter. This union was blessed with two sons, Linden Ernest of Grand Island and Warren Stanley of Dallas, Texas. He drove a truck for Fairmont Foods at this time and continued to do so for 12 years. After this he moved to Edgar and became a driver for Ace Gas. His wife, Vivian, at the time operated the Midway Cafe in Edgar. After 5 years he was transferred back to Concordia for 3 years. Then he was transferred to Superior where he continued to work for Ace Gas. On February 22, 1965, his first wife Vivian passed away. He continued to live in Superior and married Ida Elizabeth Schmuecker on August 14, 1965. Four years ago he retired from truck driving. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing, camping, and visiting with friends. In his spare time he kept busy selling utility trailers and enjoyed doing odd jobs for his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Elvin, one sister Velma and his first wife Vivian. Survivors to mourn his passing are his wife Ida of Superior; two sons, Linden and his wife Judy of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Warren and his wife Jeanne of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Norman Smith and his wife Darlene of Superior, Nebraska; an adopted brother, Larry of Hays, Kansas; one adopted sister, Gladys and her husband Don Wilson of Nelson, Nebraska; one grandson, Chad Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Rosary services were held Friday, February 20, 1987, at 7:30 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was held Saturday, February 21, 1987, at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Music was provided with Carol Shambaugh, soloist, singing "Amazing Grace" "How Great Thou Art" "And I Will Follow" and "Take Our Bread" with Lorraine Rempe as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Hans Ehlers, Vern Kimminau, Steve Ordich, Robert Young, Ron Schott and John Kaldahl. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, February 26, 1987; pg. 12
