Sabers, 26 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sabers of this city, was instantly killed in an automobile crash at about 1230 a.m. Monday morning about six miles west of Sioux Falls on highway No. 16. Two other cars, one reported to be driven by Lloyd Siberz, of Mitchell, and the other by Benjamin Koenekamp, were involved in the tragedy and two of the passengers in the Mitchell car, James F. Tobin and Vern Joseph Redden, were also killed outright. Ervin Sabers, second son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sabers was born at Salem on 9-19-1909. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and Salem High School, graduating from the later institution with the class of 1928. Since his graduation he has been associated with his father in the gas and oil business, operating a bulk station as well as the service station on Norton Avenue. He also held a partnership interest in Sabers Bros. General Store. He was a capable and industrious young man, and his congenial disposition and friendliness made him a popular figure in the community. The active pall bearers were Albinus and Clarence Puetz, Melvin and Elmer Sabers, John Henry Raue and Harold Forster. Honorary pall bearers were George Fendrich, Henry Hipschman Jr., Ernest Ryan, Leonard Lunders, Joseph Huls and Peter Kolbeck. He is survived by his parents, six sisters, Mrs. R.R. Carpenter of Rio Hondo, Texas, Irene and Angela of Sioux Falls, Laverne, Lucille and Josephine of Salem, and three brothers, Emil, Ralph and Robert of Salem. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Henry Sabers, grandmother of the deceased, Arthur Sabers, Mrs. Mary Von Lehmded and daughter, Anna Mae, of New Vienna, Iowa, and Anton Sabers, of Dubuque, Iowa.
