Description	:	Ervin Ray Melvin, son of Julius R. and Minnie Melvin, was born at Swanton, Nebraska, on September 18, 1892. He departed this life very suddenly at his farm home on the evening of January 10, 1951, at the age of 58 years, three months, three weeks and two days. Ervin came to Nuckolls County at the age of 22. He continued to live in the county until about four years ago, when he moved to Clay County. Read More	Ervin Ray Melvin, son of Julius R. and Minnie Melvin, was born at Swanton, Nebraska, on September 18, 1892. He departed this life very suddenly at his farm home on the evening of January 10, 1951, at the age of 58 years, three months, three weeks and two days. Ervin came to Nuckolls County at the age of 22. He continued to live in the county until about four years ago, when he moved to Clay County. He was called upon to serve his county in the armed forces during the first World War. He has been active in church work all his life. On September 20, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Peters. To this union were born six children, all of whom remain until this day. Ervin faithfully and tenderly cared for his family until the time of his departure. Among those whom mourn his passing are his wife; his three sons, Vernon, Leland and Billie; his three daughters, Shirley Melvin, Arlene Hoyt and Hazel Powell; and his three grandsons, Jimmie and Danny Hoyt and Robin Powell. There also remain three sisters, Stella Pitman, Viola Ahrens, and Vella Bauman; and one brother, Archie. His parents, one brother, Lawrence, and one granddaughter, Regina Powell, preceded him in death. Ervin will be missed by a great host of friends and relatives. Funeral service was held from the Angus Church of Christ at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, January 14. Don DeBord officiated. Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 18, 1951
