Read More	Obit from the Marshalltown Times-Republican, June 7, 8, and 11, 1960 / Erwin A. Giarratano was born April 23, 1942, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Joseph F. and Elda M. (Buenger) Giarratano. A workplace fall at about 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, proved fatal to Erwin, a resident of 701 E. Boone St., Marshalltown. He was in his first day at work for a roofing contractor, working on a construction project at the Sutherland Power Plant on East Main St. He stumbled on the rooftop of the new building and fell to a cement foundation 50 feet below. He was rushed to Evangelical Hospital, Marshalltown, with multiple injuries. He was transferred almost immediately to an Iowa City hospital, but died en route at about 1 p.m. He is survived by his parents, Joseph F. and Elda M. Giarratano, his brothers Samuel J. and Thomas, both of Marshalltown; a sister, Mrs. Donald Crawford, of Gladbrook, Iowa; and his paternal grandparents, Sam and Vincene Giarratano, of Marshalltown. He was predeceased by an infant brother in 1934. Pursel-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A rosary for St. Mary's High School students was said at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, and a public rosary was said at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, both at Pursel Davis. A Requiem High Mass was 9 a.m. Friday, June 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church by Msgr. Bernard Henry Skahill Pallbearers were Robert Burgfechtel, Douglas Crosby, Ronald Giannetto, Glen Long, Gary Weyker, and John Peters. A flower guard was composed of girls from the St. Mary's Class of 1960. Attending in groups were students and teachers of St. Mary's School, nurses from Evangelical Hospital, sisters and nurses from Mercy Hospital, and employees of McCormick Farm Store, Dick's Western Tire Store, and Witwer Grocery Company.
