Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi ~ St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Thomas was born on November 14, 1937, in Marshalltown, the son of Joseph and Elda (Buenger) Giarratano. He married Karen Juhl on July 22, 1961, at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Swaledale, Iowa. After graduating from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1956 he served in the Army from 1959 to 1961. Thomas later worked for 18 years at Dicks Auto before working at Fisher Controls as a Machinist retiring on December 1, 1999. Thomas was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church all of his life. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus since 1956, and the American Legion. Thomas loved to travel after his retirement spending many years in Texas as well as taking a trip to Alaska. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan attending numerous games through the years. Thomas was a very humble person who loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Karen Giarratano; children, Angie (Bill) Demo of St. Johns, Florida, and Paul Giarratano of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren, Maddie and Katie Demo; sister, Genevieve Crawford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee Giarratano, and Roger and Judie Juhl; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Sam and Erwin. Source: Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown.∼A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Thomas F. Giarratano on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi – St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Officiating was Rev. Father Alan Dietzenbach, Organist was Marilyn Spafford, and Vocals were provided by the St. Mary Choir. Pallbearers were Paul Giarratano, Bill Demo, Tom A. Giarratano, Roger Beall, Vincene Ridout, Maddie Demo, and Katie Demo. Honorary Pallbearers were Dale and Norma Wallace, Richard and Renie Loney, Ken and Elaine Hoffman, Larry and Judy Lightbody, Merlin and Cherie Hill, Jean Miller, Mary Jane Beall, and Don Giarratano.
