Description	:	Erwin McComb Forbes was born in Andover, Henry county, Illinois, June 25, 1860, and passed away August 28, 1930, at the home of his daughter at Santa Ana, California; aged seventy years, two months and three days. Read More	Erwin McComb Forbes was born in Andover, Henry county, Illinois, June 25, 1860, and passed away August 28, 1930, at the home of his daughter at Santa Ana, California; aged seventy years, two months and three days. His father was a Presbyterian minister, and he was baptized and grew up in that faith. The family came west to Iowa, and in different parts of the state his boyhood was spent. In 1883, he located at Hyde, Colorado, and there established a newspaper called The Hyde Topics, which he published until 1890. At that time he was appointed Superintendent of Schools of Washington county, Colorado, and was elected to the same office a year later. He was married on May 5, 1889, to Jeanie Badger and to this union six children were born: Earl, who was killed in action in the World War; Mrs. L.C. Crittenden of Beatrice Nebraska; Mrs. E.C. Hunter of Santa Ana, California; Dwight W. of Fairmont, Nebraska; Richard H. of St. Louis, Missouri; and Erwin M., Jr., of Santa Ana, California. In 1899 the family moved to the farm in West Blue township, Fillmore county, Nebr., at which place they lived for twenty-one years. Mr. Forbes and wife retired from the farm and have spent the winters for the past ten years in Oregon and California. Mr. Forbes was of a genial, kindly disposition and always ready and willing to serve his community in any way he could. In addition to his wife and five children, he leaves to mourn his loss, one sister, Mrs. R.M. Lane of Sturgis, South Dakota, and five grandchildren. The body arrived in Fairmont Sunday on Train 2, accompanied by Mrs. Forbes and daughter, Mrs. E.C. Hunter. Funeral services were held from the Fairmont Methodist Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon at 2"30 o'clock, with interment in the family plot in Fairmont cemetery. Rev. C.H. Lind officiated, assisted by Rev. W.F. Perry. Relatives in attendance from points outside the Fairmont community were: Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Crittenden and children of Beatrice, Mrs. E.C. Hunter of Santa Ana, California; Richard H. Forbes of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. R.M. Lane Sturgis, South Dakota; Mrs. Emma Forbes and Newell Forbes of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. May Hansen of Whitewood, South Dakota. Among the friends were Mr. and Mrs. Arch Walker and children and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ellis and family of York and Congressman and Mrs. Charles H. Sloan of Geneva.
