Read More	ESDERT SIEBENS CALLED BY DEATH MONDAY, APRIL 21 RITES HELD THURSDAY FOR PIONEER JOHNSON TOWNSHIP RESIDENT As was briefly noted in these columns las week, Esdert Siebens, a well-known pioneer, passed away at his home about nine miles southeast of Akron, in Johnson township, Monday morning, April 21, 1947, at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 29 days. He had been in failing health the past two years and had been in bed six weeks. Esdert Siebens was born in Germany, coming to this country with his parents when he was six years old. The family settled in Illinois, later coming to Plymouth County, Iowa. He was married to Gasky Huls fifty-two years ago. His entire married life was spent on the same farm, but he had retired from active farming about ten years ago. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Preston Township and always took an active part in the duties of various offices of that church. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, and six sons and three daughters--Sieben, of Akron; Henry, of Hertel, Wisconsin; George, of Akron; Andrew, of LeMars; John, of Akron; Mrs. Anna Taylor, of Akron; Mrs. Rena Gabel, of Le Mars; Martha Siebens, of Pompano, Florida; and Chris, of Good Thunder, MInnesota; also by 17 grandchildren and one brother, George Siebens, of LeMars. Two children, a son and a daughter, preceded him in death, both dying in infancy. The departure of this fine citizen brings regret to his many friends, who extend condolences to the bereaved family. The funeral was held from the family home last Thursday afternoon at 2:00, with brief services, followed by services at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston Township, conducted by the pastor, Reverend H.F. Stief, with a large attendance of relatives, friends and neighbors. Interment was in the St. John's cemetery. Relatives coming from a distance were his two sons, Henry, of Hertel, Wisconsin, and Chris, of Good Thunder, Minnesota, as well as other relatives from Madison, South Dakota; Altamont, South Dakota; Canby and Lake Crystal, Minnesota, and Sioux City, Iowa.
