Description	:	AKRON, Iowa--Rena E. Gabel, 90, of Traverse City, Michigan, formerly of Akron, died Sunday, October 17, 1999, at a Traverse City nursing home following a lengthy illness. Services were held in Traverse City Wednesday, October 20. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Plymouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Akron. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mrs. Gabel was born February 16, 1909, in Akron, the daughter of Esdert and Grace (Huls) Siebens. Local arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mrs. Gabel was born February 16, 1909, in Akron, the daughter of Esdert and Grace (Huls) Siebens. She married Glen Gabel on August 24, 1939. The couple farmed near Akron for many years. She was employed as a nurse's aid and as a cook at a lunch counter in Akron. She was also a seamstress. He died in 1980. She then moved to Lima, Ohio, to be near her son. She later moved to Traverse City. She was a choir director and organist at St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston Township and at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Survivors include a son and his wife, the Reverend David and Laurie Gabel of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Natalie Judd and Nathan Gabel; a brother and his wife, Andrew and Blanche Siebens of Le Mars, Iowa; and a sister, Martha Siebens of Pompano Beach, Florida. She was prededed in death by five brothers, Sieb, Henry, John, George, and Chris; and a sister Anna Taylor. --TAKEN FROM THE SIOUX CITY JOURNAL
