Description	:	Mrs Essie L. Pratt, 88, of New Market died Friday [May 8] afternoon at Goldenrod Manor where she had been since March. She was born March 13, 1893 at Jonesboro, Ill, the daughter of William and Edna Misenheimer Bankston. She was married to Ralph H. Pratt who preceded her in death in 1977. After Mr Pratt's death she was at her home in New Market until going to be with her daughter at Ames. She was there for 15 months prior to coming to the rest home. She was born March 13, 1893 at Jonesboro, Ill, the daughter of William and Edna Misenheimer Bankston. She was married to Ralph H. Pratt who preceded her in death in 1977. After Mr Pratt's death she was at her home in New Market until going to be with her daughter at Ames. She was there for 15 months prior to coming to the rest home. Mrs Pratt is survived by one daughter, Mrs John W. [Gene] Pace of Ames. There are five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Evan Bankston of Sweet Home, Or, is a brother and sisters are Edith Johnson of Vancouver, Wa; Pearl Langford and Gene Hughes of Foster, Or. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Ralph H. Pratt, Jr., one brother, and one sister. Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev William VanDam officiating. Jim McAlpin was solist and Mary Anderson organist. Casket bearers were: Verlin Cade, Darrell, Keith, Billy, Bob, and Kenneth Pratt. Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, May 11, 1981 Essie Leona Pratt was born March 13, 1893, in Union County, Ill, the second of seven children, to William H. and Edna Earle Bankston. She was united in marriage to Ralph H. Pratt October 2, 1916, in Clarinda, Ia. To this union was born a son, Ralph H. Pratt, Jr, and a daughter Gene Earle Pratt Pace. Essie was a member of the Methodist church all of her life. She was honored several years ago as a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. Essie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother, her husband, Ralph, and son Ralph, Jr. Essie lived the major share of her life in the same house in New Market with her husband Ralph. One may not measure Essie's life in words but only through those whose lives she touched. We all remember the love she poured out to the people of New Market during her lifetime in God's service through the Methodist Church. She leaves hundreds of dear friends and an inheritance of an exemplary life to her daughter, Gene and son-in-law, John, her five grandchildren, Kathy Flores and Martha Pratt, Steven, Martha, and Tom Pace, and four great-grandchildren.
