Mrs. Estella Davis, Pawnee City, Nebraska, passed away Friday morning, April 26, 1963. Mrs. Davis was nearing 102 years of age, her birthday being May 17. She operated a hotel in DuBois for many years. Mrs. Davis is survived by a son, Cecil Davis also of Pawnee City. Funeral services are being held this Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Pawnee City. Mrs. Davis was a friend of George Britt, Seneca, and Saturday morning Mr. Britt recalled a visit he had with her about a month ago. They visited for about two hours and she seemed as interested in the events of the day as in those of the past. She is a baby (1 month old) in the 1860 US census record with her parents (collected on 2 Jul 1860). She is 10 years old in the 1870 US census record with her parents. Clearly, she was not born in 1861, as claimed by her obituary, so I've suggested changing the year to 1860, which would make her birth date 17 May 1860, a little more than 1 month before the collection date (2 Jul 1860). I've also suggested adding the middle name Elizabeth. She is identified as Elizabeth in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records. Beginning in the 1900 census record, she becomes Stella or Estella.
