Description	:	JEWELL, ESTELLA—Estella Van Slyke, daughter of Daniel and Catherine Van Slyke, was born at Orland, Ind., March 11, 1867. She passed away at Park hospital, Omaha, Neb., Thursday morning, September 3, 1942, at 4:30, aged 75 years 5 months and 23 days. She had been at the hospital eight months. Read More	JEWELL, ESTELLA—Estella Van Slyke, daughter of Daniel and Catherine Van Slyke, was born at Orland, Ind., March 11, 1867. She passed away at Park hospital, Omaha, Neb., Thursday morning, September 3, 1942, at 4:30, aged 75 years 5 months and 23 days. She had been at the hospital eight months. Miss Van Slyke came to Nebraska with her parents when she was five years old, being one of Nebraska’s early settlers. She joined the Methodist church in early childhood and continued a faithful ember of that church throughout her long and useful life. March 22, 1886, she was united in marriage to Eben Ward Jewell, and to this union were born five children, all of whom, with the exception of one Daughter, Mrs. Ethel Southard, survive her. Mrs. Jewell was a kind and conscientious Christian, a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend. She lived not so much for herself as for others, and was never happier than when she was making others happy. She will be long remembered for her many kindnesses, not only, but for her consistent kindly attitude toward life, and for her fin fortitude and courage in meeting every trial. She set before those who knew her best a splendid example of Christian womanhood, and received in return all the tenderness and care that loving hearts and hands could minister. She leaves to mourn her departure four children, Mrs. Carl C. Wilson of Omaha, Mrs. Ralph Bolton of Geneva, Vern of Spokane, Wash., and Vivian Jewell of Davenport, Neb., one brother, Guy Van Slyke of Hyattsville, Wyo., fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many friends. Besides her daughter, Ethel, she was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters. Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist church in Geneva at 2:30 o’clock, Saturday, September 5, 1942. The pastor, Rev. W. B. Pardum officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
