In 1940 she, her parents, her brother, and their paternal grandmother lived in a house they were renting for ten dollars a month on Second Avenue West in Inverness, MT. Her father worked as a farm laborer, her mother as a secretary and clerk for the school board, and she as a clerk for the post office department. Their incomes for weeks worked in 1939 were $100/26, $100/10, and $85/16, respectively. Great Falls Tribune (MT) - September 15, 2002: INVERNESS - Esther Aileen (Woods) Han, 83, who farmed with her husband south of Inverness, died Thursday of cancer at a Chester nursing home. Survivors include daughters Shirley Dick of Billings and Dorothea "Dotty" Dick of Hardin a son, Don Han of Rudyard a brother, Bob Woods of Inverness seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Esther Aileen (Woods) Han was born April 9, 1919, at Inverness. Her family moved to Alberta in 1920, where she received her early education. The Woods returned to Inverness in 1937, so Aileen graduated from Inverness High School in 1938. Aileen married Charles D. "Dud" Han on Sept. 13, 1941, at Great Falls. They lived and worked on the Han farm south of Inverness. Dud moved to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester in 1997. He died on Dec. 3, 1997. This past April Aileen was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Inverness. She also served as a precinct committeewoman for many years. Aileen was recognized as a "Gold Star Mother" following the death of her eldest son, "Chuck," a casualty of the Vietnam conflict. Aileen's hobbies were many. She loved flowers and plants and enjoyed raising a vegetable garden. She was talented at cooking and baking. Her other interests included crocheting, sewing, fishing, square dancing and collecting plates.
