Mrs. Holmstrom had been in failing health for the past year and at the time of her death was being cared for at the University of Minnesota. Always a loving mother and wife, Mrs. Holmstrom will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She was laid to rest in the Dayton cemetery. FINAL RITES HELD FOR HARCOURT WOMAN Esther Myrtle Johnson, daughter of the late John L. and Hattie Johnson, was born May 4, 1886, at Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois. At the age of ten she moved with her parents to Webster Co., Iowa, where they lived on a farm near Gowrie. She attended the Wendell District School and Tobin Normal College at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She spent a great deal of her time in her earlier years as a seamstress. In 1916 she went to Minneapolis and on April 4 of that year was united in marriage to J. Alfred Holmstrom, a former resident of Harcourt. they resided in Minneapolis until 1926 when they returned to Harcourt and for ten years resided on the J.P. Holmstrom farm, east of Harcourt. In 1936, they moved to Buffalo, Minn., and later to the present home at Pequot Lakes, Minn. She had many friends and an open and friendly home always maintained by her. In her earlier days she attended and was confirmed in the Lost Grove Ev. Mission Church of which she at that time was a faithful member. Later she became affiliated with the Lutheran Church and at the various places took active part in the work of the church. Mrs. Holmstrom passed away on Thursday, July 20, 1944, at the University of Minnesota Hospital. She had been in failing health the past year, but her death came rather unexpected to those close to her. She is survived by her husband, J. Alfred Holmstrom, two daughters, Mrs. Martha Louise Castenson and Mrs. Gladys Gustafson, living near Harcourt; a son, Harold, of St. Paul, Minn.; and eight grandchildren. Also by two sisters, Mrs. Paul H. Anderson of Gowrie, Iowa and Miss Almeda Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; and three brothers, Elmer, Carl and Reuben S. Johnson of Gowrie, and Eugene W. Johnson of Callender, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 24, 1944, from the Harold Castenson home and the Harcourt Lutheran Church and were in charge of Pastor Waldo Ekeberg of Dayton, who gave the message. Mrs. Harvey Samuelson and Mrs. Bernhard Schill sang "It is Well With My Soul" and Mrs. Samuelson sang "I Have a Friend So Patient, Kind, Forbearing." Interment took place in Dayton cemetery.
