Her family later lived on a farm north of Riverdale, Nebraska where she was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. On February 2, 1922, she married Charles Ritter who farmed near Pleasanton. Also, there are 21 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild as well as her sisters, Ella Metz of Pleasanton and Laura Lammers of Portland, Oregon. Esther was preceded in death by her husband on February 2, 1984, an infant son, three grandchildren, six brothers, and one sister. As a long time member of the Pleasanton Methodist Church, she was an avid quilter who continued her craft at Kearney Manor. When she lived on the farm, she belonged to the Sunflower Kensington Club. She continued an interest in music based on her playing clarinet with her family band and singing in the church choir. Her hobbies were card playing, needlework, and display of her "green thumb" with her garden and house plants. Her family often feasted on her baking - a skill she learned at the age of ten - especially the Kaffee Kuchen and sugar cookies. She utilized her abilities as a homemaker for her family, neighbors, and friends through her church, the local school, and the community. Her legacy is her support of the education of her descendants.
