Also in the household was daughter Cordelia M. Cheney age 34, husband William H. Cheney age 34, a pelt peddler, and son Albert G. Cheney age 3. By the 1880 census he was living by himself in Ashland, age 73, shoemaker. He died at age 78 of liver disease, occupation shoemaker, widowed. He was buried under the name Ethan James (Cemeteries in Ashland, Bagley), Green Grove Cemetery. Death record gives name as James Huckins, died age 78, 9 mos and 23 days in Ashland.
