Fox, who was recently called to Chicago by the serious illness of his wife, says that she is possibly a shade better, but that the case of little Ethel, his daughter, who is suffering from diphtheria, is very uncertain. ***************************************** The Emporia Weekly News, 06 Oct 1881, Thursday ANOTHER VICTIM OF DIPHTHERIA The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Fox, in this city, will be deeply pained to learn at a telegram received in this city this morning, announces the death of their little daughter, Ethel, who died Monday evening of diphtheria, at Chicago, whither she accompanied her father and grandmother, some days ago, in response to a dispatch summoning them to the bedside of Mrs. Fox, who is slowly recovering from a very dangerous illness. The disease was of the most malignant type and completely baffled the skill of the best medical attendants which could be procured in the city. Mr. Fox will make the mourned journey with the body of his child alone, as Mrs. Trask, who went to Chicago some days ago, will be detained by the illness of her daughter, who is still in a very weak condition. He will arrive in Emporia tomorrow morning on the early train, and the funeral will take place from the family residence on Merchants street, at 9 o'clock. Little Ethel had just passed the age of four years and was an unusually sweet and interesting child. She was the idol of her parents and grandmother, who have the warm sympathies of this community in their terrible bereavement. ******************************************* The Emporia Weekly News, 06 Oct 1881, Thursday Mr. I. D. Fox arrived in this city Tuesday with the remains of his little daughter Ethel, and the funeral took place from the family residence at nine o'clock, Rev. Dr. Cordley, of the Congregational Church officiating.
