Lead Daily Call, January 27, 1972 - "Mrs. Fred Ausmann Dies Thursday Morning. Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Ausmann, long-time resident of Lead, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday en route to the Homestake Hospital. Mrs. Ausmann is the mother of Bill Ausmann, Lead High School principal. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of the Daniel Funeral Home, Lead." Lead Daily Call, January 28, 1972 - "Ethel Ausmann Funeral Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church of Lead for Mrs. Fred (Ethel Irene) Ausmann, life-long resident of Lead. Mrs. Ausmann, who had been ill the past six weeks, died about 4:20 a.m. Thursday morning en route to the Homestake Hospital. The Rev. John DeVries, pastor, will officiate at the final rites. Interment will be in South Lead Cemetery under the direction of the Daniel Funeral Home. She was born April 21, 1906 at Lead, the daughter of William and Mary Friskey Hunter. She was educated in the Lead schools, graduating in 1923, attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and finished her education at Spearfish Normal. On Feb. 1, 1926 at Deadwood she was married to Fred Ausmann by the Rev. Hartung, pastor of the Deadwood Methodist Church. Following their marriage they moved to Nemo where they lived until 1937 when they moved to Lead where they have lived since. Mrs. Ausmann taught school in the Nemo area for many years. She was employed at the McBride Grocery, the Lead Credit Bureau and the Homestake Library for 13 years. She retired on April 12, 1971. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Ruth Circle of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She is survived by her husband, one son Bill, Lead High School principal; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Shirley)( Swanson, Arvada, Colo., and 4 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Williams, Mrs. Oscar (Wilma) Schumann, Mrs. Clara Kirkpatrick, all of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Harold (Evangeline) Kadow, Santa Barbara, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother Howard and a sister Kathryn. The body will lie in state at the Daniel Chapel from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Lead for Mrs. Fred (Ethel Irene) Ausmann, 65, who died early Thursday morning en route to Homestake Hospital. Rev. John DeVries, pastor, officiated at the final rites. Music was provided by Mrs. Richard Tinker, soloist, who sang 'How Great Thou Art' and "Abide With Me.' She was accompanied by Mrs. Elon Keeler, organist. Pallbearers were Hubert McGrath, Ed Virkula, Walter Thompson, Harold Ludeman, all of Lead, Rudolph Erickson, Spearfish and Albert Knowlton, Deadwood. All other friends were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment was in South Lead Cemetery under the direction of the Daniel Funeral Home, Lead."
