She worked for a short time for the Beatrice Telephone company. She and her husband Elwyn then owned and operated the Thompson Grocery Store for many years before moving to Loveland, Colorado and to Estes Park, Colorado where they owned and operated a Dairy Queen. Fifth Street, Beatrice, died Tuesday, November 27, 1990 at her home. She was born August 1, 1898 in Washington, Kansas. She worked for a short time for the Beatrice Telephone company. She and her husband Elwyn then owned and operated the Thompson Grocery Store for many years before moving to Loveland, Colorado and to Estes Park, Colorado where they owned and operated a Dairy Queen. They moved back to Beatrice in 1959. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Ladies Circle of the church, and the Arts and Crafts Club all of Beatrice. Survivors: daughter, Betty Wieler of Beatrice; son, Virgil of Lincoln; granddaughter, Suzanne Wieler of Omaha; sisters, Rozina Marten and Ava Payne both of Beatrice. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elwyn and two brothers. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Friday, Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, the Rev. William B. Malotte officiating. *********************************************************** Ethel and E.J. married August 26, 1919. The 1930 United States Federal Census taken in April shows Ethel M. Chipman Gouker (31), her husband, Elwyn Gouker (32), plus their daughter Betty Lou (5) and Elwyn's dad, George (80), living in their Beatrice household. This 1930 Census also shows a lodger living with them, Oliver Percy Payne, age 33; Oliver was working as an assistant in a retail grocery store. [Oliver is the brother of Leo Max Payne who married Ethel's sister, Ava Beatrice Chipman Payne.] Daughter Betty Lou married Benno Wieler on Nov. 4, 1951; they later divorced. Read that Betty Lou Gouker Wieler died in Omaha May 4, 2009. Siblings: Rozina Chipman Marten (1891-1992) Elroy Eddison Chipman (1893-1952) Robert Toombs Chipman (1900-1976) Ava Beatrice Chipman Payne (1912-2000). Grandparents Isaac Newton Chipman and Pamelia Jane Toombs Chipman are buried in Doniphan, Missouri.
