Description	:	Ethel Grange was shown as being born in Illinois in the 1900 Census for Milo, Illinois. In that census, Ethel, age 11, was living with her widowed father and three siblings, Maude, Frank, and Alfred. In her marriage record, Ethel stated she was born in Iowa, and in all of the census records after her marriage, Ethel Brown was shown as being born in Iowa. In searching further, I found the entire family living in Linn County, Iowa, in the 1895 Census, and in that census, Ethel is shown as being born in Linn County. It appears that Maude married Walter Applen and stayed in Milo, Illinois, and Rial and his two sons, Frank and Alfred, had moved west by 1910. Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 13, 1973: Mrs. Lawrence R. Brown. Mrs. Ethel M. Brown, 84, of 346 S. Davis, died Thursday at 4 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. She was born April 5, 1889, at Marion, to Rial and Rachael Moore Grange. She had lived in Ottumwa most of her life. She was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church, the Order of Eastern Star and Ottumwa Hospital Auxiliary. She married Lawrence R. Brown July 27, 1910, in Ottumwa. He died in 1957. Survivors include two grandsons, Larry Lucas of LaCrosse, Wis., and Larry R. Brown of Greeley, Colo., and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter. The service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Milton Early of the Church of the Brethren will officiate with burial in the Shaul Cemetery. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
