Mr. Brown was a veteran employe of John Deere Ottumwa Works. He was foreman of the old woodshop department there for about 35 years prior to his retirement in 1951. He had been employed at John Deere for 43 years. The son of Frank and Martha Thompson Brown, he was born at Fairfield August 26, 1885. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for 52 years. He was a member of the Davis Street Christian church, and the John Deere Ottumwa Works Foreman’s club. His marriage to Ethel Mae Grange took place July 27, 1910, in Ottumwa. She survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Mooney of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Larry David Lucas and Larry Ray Brown, both of Ottumwa, and a half-sister, Mrs. Nellie Gruwell of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence R. Brown, Jr., on July 19, 1953, also by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. LaVerne Morris, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnie N. Underwood, Chester B. Kirk, Ira S. Bolwar, Martin Lock, Ralph C. Shipley and Frank Buchanan.
