She was taken to the hospital the day before from Sunset Home and rested reasonably well until her death. Ethel L. Stinton was born June 22, 1887, near Geneva, Neb. Her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stinton, were Fillmore county pioneers. Her business career began in 1905. She attended Geneva high school, then entered a business college in Sioux city, Ia., After graduating her first position was with the Commoner, a Lincoln newspaper, whose editor was William Jennings Bryan. She was involved in a street car accident while in Lincoln, which contributed to back trouble in later years. She went to Salem, Ore., from Lincoln and worked there four hears. From Oregon she went to Rygate, Mont., where she worked for many years, in the county court house. In 1935 she commenced working for the Montana state senate and January 25, 1937, she was elected journal clerk of the Senate. In this position she was responsible for transcribing, typing and editing the proceedings of the legislative assembly of the State of Montana. She performed these duties the next two sessions, 1939 and 1941. In 1942 she commenced working for the Fillmore County Abstract Association in Geneva and continued this work until incapacitated by a broken hip in 1959. She remained in her home in Geneva until June, 1963, when she was hospitalized for several months, but recovered sufficiently to move to Sunset Home, where she spent many enjoyable months. Her passing was sudden and unexpected. Mrs. Wythers was married twice, the first time to D. A. Jones, a prominent attorney in Rygate, Mont., June 25, 1935. He died from an abscess of the lung January 23, 1936, at the age of 48. Her second marriage was to James Wythers of Geneva October 2, 1942. This marriage was cut short by Mr. Wythers’ death December 11, 1942. She was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Leroy Stinton and a sister, Mrs. Elva Archer. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Clyde K. Ewart of Geneva, three nephews, and one niece. She was a hard working loyal and sincere person, who took pride in her work and did well what she undertook. Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva at 2 p. m. Monday, June 8. Fred Reeb of the Mennonite church officiated. Ralph Reemts sang “Abide with Me” and “What a Friend.” Mrs. Willard Foster was accompanist. Pallbearers were John R. Bixby, John Fahlberg, Orville Hafer, Willard Havel, Ralph Reemts and Fred Slepicka. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. (Source: The Nebraska Signal June 1964)
