Burial was in the family lot in the Arapahoe cemetery with six of his grandsons as pallbearers. Among those from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Orvin Huckfeldt (Katie Burke) of Torrington, Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Don Burke of Trinidad, Colorado, Bill Burke of Tucson, Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Burke (Bus) and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Burke of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burke of Cambridge, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Huff (Clara Burke) of McCook, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hawkins (Minnie Burke) and Ralph and Roy Hawkins of Detroit, Michigan, Mannie Burke of Kearney and Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Hoyt of McCook. E.S. Burke Ethelbert Schrader Burke, son of Abdon Lee and Anna E. Burke was born at Ellenboro, Wisconsin on 4 March 1867 and he passed away at St. Catherine hospital in McCook, Nebraska on 24 March 1958 at 91 years of age. At the age of 12 years he moved with his parents to Lincoln, Nebraska where they lived for a short time, then moving to Gosper county. On 5 May 1891 he was united in marriage to Rosa Eva Crow. He and his bride moved on their homestead north of Arapahoe in Gosper county where they lived for 26 years. To this union nine children were born. Mr. Burke retained ownership of his homestead throughout his life. In 1918 they moved to Arapahoe, later living a short time in Funk. After leaving Arapahoe in 1930 they made their home in Cambridge and McCook. Mrs. Burke passed away 24 July 1947 at the home of her daughter in McCook. Mr. Burke then made his home with his children, spending most of his time in McCook and Lincoln. He was a very vigorous, active person throughout his life. A pioneer homesteader, active in farm organizations and politics. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Lincoln. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by one son, Clifford, his parents, two brothers, Rank and W.R. and two sisterss, Katie E. and Mary Virginia. Surviving are five sons: Donnely of Trinidad, Colorado, E.S. Burke Jr. and James Paul of Lincoln, Charles H. of Cambridge and William L. of Tucson, Arizona; three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Hawkins of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Katie Huckfeldt of Torrington, Wyoming and Mrs. Clara Huff of McCook; 29 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Note: Middle name spelled with and without the C and also with an O as the first vowel. Originally probably Schroeder, where OE = O umlaut which would be heard as a long A by American ears, and is also pronounced that way in some areas of Germany.
