Description	:	Eugene Francis Friess, BM-2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Math Friess, was born on April 24, 1927, at Ransom. He died December 10, 1953, at the age of 26 years, 8 months and 16 days. His death was the result of an unusual automobile accident at Minneapolis, Minn. He was riding as a passenger in the rear seat of the automobile, when it went out of control due to icy conditions, and overturned pinning him beneath the car. Death was instantaneous. He died December 10, 1953, at the age of 26 years, 8 months and 16 days. His death was the result of an unusual automobile accident at Minneapolis, Minn. He was riding as a passenger in the rear seat of the automobile, when it went out of control due to icy conditions, and overturned pinning him beneath the car. Death was instantaneous. He attended Centralia School, one mile north of his home, and went to Ransom High School one year. He was inducted into the service in July of 1945. He served one year in the navy at Alameda, Calif., after which he was honorably discharged. He spent three months at home, after which time he enlisted in the navy October 40, 1946, for four years. Most of this time was spent aboard the Crusier USS Providence in the Atlantic Fleet. After this time had expired he re-enlisted for six more years. He was on the Destroyer USS Shenandoah AD26, also in the Atlantic Fleet, until in November of 1952, when he was assigned to shore duty at USNAS, Norman, Okla. He was at Norman, Okla.,until in May of 1953 at which time he was transferred to USNAS at Minneapolis, Minn., arriving there on May 9, where he served his country until his untimely death. The body was escorted by a buddy, Lawrence Hanson, BM-2, who worked in the same office with Eugene in the security department. He leaves to mourn, besides his parents, 10 brothers and 8 sisters; Mrs. Lawrence Marvin of Ransom, Mrs. Marjorie Flax of Ransom, Cletus of Denver, Colo., Elmer of Dodge City, Lewis of Lyons, Sr. M. Janice (Bernadette) of Wichita, Donald at home, Mrs. Anna Mae Baumgartner of Ellis, Warren James in Korea serving aboard the USS Oriskony, Mrs. Mary Frances Simon of Colwich, Bernard, Rosella, Harold, Frederick, Janice, Daniel, Catherine and E. Maurice, all of the home. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, December 15, from the St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Rev. George Kalin, O.F.M.Cap., as celebrant at solemn high mass assisted by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Grellner, rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, as deacon and Rev. Eugene Becker, O.F.M. Cap., of Hays as subdeacon. A naval contingent from the air base at Hutchinson had charge of services at the grave. Eight men of the contingent were pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers were eight men of the Ransom VFW Post. John Aeby had charge of funeral arrangements. Ness Co. News, Dec. 24, 1953
