Description	:	Mathias Frederick Friess was born on November 29, 1896, at St. Marks, in Sedgwick County, Kansas. He passed away after a short illness at the Grisell Memorial Hospital, at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 5 days. He was the son of Fred J. and Anna Friess (both deceased). Math was the fourth child of a family of nine children. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an active member of the Ransom K of C Council. He served his country in World War I with the army, stationed at Camp Funston. ... Read More	Mathias Frederick Friess was born on November 29, 1896, at St. Marks, in Sedgwick County, Kansas. He passed away after a short illness at the Grisell Memorial Hospital, at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 5 days. He was the son of Fred J. and Anna Friess (both deceased). Math was the fourth child of a family of nine children. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an active member of the Ransom K of C Council. He served his country in World War I with the army, stationed at Camp Funston. He was united in marriage to Mary Roths February 11, 1920, in St. Marks Catholic Church. He and his bride came to Ness County that same year and lived on the same place for 38 years. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his widow, Mary; and 18 living children: Mrs. Lawrene Marvin of Ransom, Mrs. Marjorie Flax of Ransom, Cletus F. Friess of Denver, Colo., Elmer N. Friess of Dodge City, Lewis J. Friess of Lyons, (Bernadette) Sister Mary Janice of Sacred Heart Convent of Wichita, Donald M. Friess of Ransom, Mrs. Anna Mae Baumgartner of Whittier, Calif., Warren James Friess, U.S. Navy, Atsugi, Japan, Mrs. Mary Frances Simon of Rosalia, Bernard J. Friess, U.S. Army, Asian City, Korea, Rosella Friess, of the home, Harold R. Friess of Topeka, Frederick T. Friess of Topeka, (Janice) Sister Mary Jeanette of Sacred Heart Convent of Wichita, Daniel, Catherine and Earl, all of the home. One son, Eugene, preceded his father in death on December 10, 1953. Other survivors are four brothers, John B. Friess of Cheney, Joe Friess of Conway Springs, Fred Friess of Cheney and Raymond Friess of Goddard; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Thaine of Clearwater, Mrs. Mary Good of Wichita, and Miss Anna Friess of Wichita. One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Landwehr was called to her eternal reward August 11, 1952. Many other relatives and friends survive. Officers at the solemn Requiem Mass were: Rev. William Stehle, O.F.M., Cap., celebrant; Rev. Vincent Eck, deacon of Lyons; Rev. John Haberthier, sub deacon of Dighton. The Requiem was sung by the choir from Sacred Heart Church of Ness City. Active pallbearers were nephews; Florian Friess, Urban Landwehr, Jake Roths, Aloysius Roths, Clarence Metzen and Eugene Metzen. Honorary pallbearers were Martin Schreiber, Francis Luetters, Joe Hilmes, William Schweitzer, George Luetters, and Albert Baumgartner. Funeral arrangements were by Fitzgerald’s of Ness City. Interment was in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Ransom. Ness Co. News, March 20, 1958
