Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester. Eugene Francis Langel was born May 12, 1955 in Havre, MT. He was one of six children and the first son born to Alice Chvilicek and Arnold "Bud" Langel. Eugene grew up in the Goldstone community north of Rudyard. In 1968 the Langels moved into Rudyard following the untimely death of his father. Eugene finished his school years in Rudyard, where he enjoyed football and wrestling, and he graduated for R.H.S. in 1973. Eugene attended Northern Montana College in Havre for a quarter before transferring to Helena Vo-Tech, where he studied auto mechanics for a year. While there he took a maintenance/janitorial job at the State Capitol. During that time the legislature had passed the 󈬧 m.p.h. speed limit law" (which, in reality, was a fuel conservation ticket), and Eugene had the distinction of getting the very first $5 ticket in the state! In the late-1970's and early-1980's Eugene worked in the oil fields in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. He was married for a short time to a Montana girl, Linda Smith Gordon. He moved to Arizona where he worked as a truck driver and auto mechanic during his 10-year stay in the Phoenix area. In the early-1990's Eugene decided to move to Las Vegas, NV. While there he was employed as a mechanic at several salvage yards, then began working as an auto mechanic on his own for a few years. Unfortunately, Eugene was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2003 and went on disability. He fought a brave battle with the disease, but the cancer spread to his bones and vital organs. After a 2-week stay in Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Eugene was "called home" to be with his loving parents, who preceded him in death. Eugene was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Ransom parish in Hingham. He enjoyed the simple things in life and lived as a "free spirit". He loved football, especially the N.F.L., and earned his high school nickname ("Merc") from an old pro player named Mercury Morris. Eugene enjoyed the past 15 years in Vegas, where he liked the weather, the food was cheap, and he could play little Blackjack. He is survived by 2 brothers, Bill Langel (Pam) of Inverness and Dennis Langel (Debbie) of Reed Point; 3 sisters, Marrietta Haaland of Federal Way, WA, Janet Twedt (Paul) of Federal Way, WA, and Judy Langel (Mark Brady) of Phoenix, AZ; a stepson, Ramie Gordon and family of California; one niece; and several nephews. Eugene was preceded in death not only by his parents, but also by his maternal grandparents (John and Marion Chvilicek), his paternal grandparents (Arnold and Helen Langel), a special niece (Jessica Langel), and his ex-wife (Linda Gordon).
