In the presence of 200 guests the couple exchanged vows at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 31 in Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence with Monsignor Haukap performing the double ring ceremony and served as celebrant for the Nuptial High Mass that followed. Basket arrangements of snapdragons, mums, and lighted candles adorned the altar. The Church Choir sang te (sic) Mass with Mrs. Eugene Spade and Marian Mertens singing the "Ava Maria" accompanied by the groom's aunt Mrs George Drudik, at the organ. The bride, given in marriage by her father wore a gown of white bridal satin. A softly shirred collar of silk net and orange blossoms framed the high rounded yoke of net in the off-shoulder mode and closely fitted sleeve ending in points at the wrist completed the basque bodice. The full skirt softly gathered at the waist line was completed with a long cathedral train. Her double tiered veil of sheer illusion fell to fingertip length from a halo of orange blossoms. Alecon lace trimmed the entire veil. She wore a double strand of pearls, gift of the groom, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations centered with a white orchid corsage with streamers of white satin. Bridesmaids were Misses Marita and Jolene Buescher, sisters of the bride, and Loretta and Joan Karmazin, sisters of the groom. They wore identical gowns of gold, acqua (sic), rose and fushia (sic) respectively which were designed with a nylon net yoke outlined with a satin ruffle forming an off-shoulder bertha. The back of the full skirt was designed with a double tier bustle effect sweeping to floor length. Their headresses (sic) were of white and silver brocaded satin and each wore a rhinestone necklace. They carried a satin ribbon jonoquil (sic) bouquets centered with carnations corsages. The groom's attendants were Leonard Karmazin, cousin of the groom, Alan Ziggafaas friend of the couple, Dale Wenzinger and Donavan Pohlmeier, cousins of the bride. Donald Buescher, the bride's brother and Willard Karmazin, the groom's brother, served as ushers. The groom wore a blue business suit and attendants wore blue and brown business suits with white carnation boutonniers (sic) The mother of the bride wore a navy blue dress with matching accessories and the groom's mother wore a brown dress with matching accessories. Each wore a rose corsage. The bride and the groom's grandparents were prehented (sic) with carnation corsages. The couple was honored at a wedding breakfast for the bridal party at the home of the bride's sister in law, Mrs Donald Buescher. A three course dinner was served to 140 guests in the Lawrence Church Parlors. The bride's table was centered with a three tiered wedding cake baked and decorated by the groom's sister Mrs Bernard Svoboda, on which a miniature bride and groom stood undder (sic) an arch of white flowers and a dove holding a wedding ring at either side of the arch. A bouquet of mums and snapdragons stood at either end of the table which was lighted by white tapers. The groom's cake was baked by a sister in law of the groom, Mrs Robert Karmazin Mrs Donald Buescher had charge of the guest book and Mrs Robert Karmazin and Mrs Bernard Svoboda has (sic) charge of the gifts. For a wedding trip to Wyoming and Colorado, Mrs Karmazin wore a winter white dress with rhinestone accessories and a white orchid corsage. She is a Lawrence High School graduate and has been teaching for the past 3 1/2 years in rural schools in Nuckolls and Webster counties. Mr Karmazin also a graduate of Lawrence High school is engaged in farming. In the evening the young couple entertained their friends and relatives at a dance in the Lawrence Parish Hall. Out of town guests were from Superior, Blue Hill, Deweese, Fairfield and Hastings. ======================== The Superior Express (Superior, NE), Thursday, August 30, 1984 The funeral for Eugene Karmazin was Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He died Friday, Aug. 17, at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 27 days, following a short illness. Eugene Julius Karmazin, one of seven children of Julius and Lillie Dusatko Karmazin, was; born on a farm near Lawrence, Feb. 21, 1929. He grew up on the, family farm, attended country school near Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School with the class of 1946. Jan. 31, 1951, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Buescher at Lawrence and to this union five children were born. Karmazin served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, serving with Company A of the 820th Aviation Battalion in South Korea. The remainder of his life was busy with many vocations, organizations and raising their family. For the last nine years he was employed by the Share Corporation as a chemical salesman. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had served as a trustee for a number of years, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the Knights of Columbus of which he served as financial secretary. Karmazin was a past president of the Superior Jaycees, past member of the Volunteer Fire Department and was also a member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW and American Legion. He was a charter member of the Superior Elks Lodge, a member of the Superior Eagles Lodge, a member of the Superior Country Club and of the Chamber of Commerce. His motorized Santa's Sleigh and reindeer made him well known over many states. He traveled eight states at one time, making thousands of children happy as "Santa." Preceding him in death were his father and an infant sister, Rita. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; two sons, Darold of Lincoln and Duane, 0maha; three daughters, Mrs. Keenan Elliott (Linda) of Belleville, Janice of Lincoln and Lisa of the home; six grandchildren, Nathan and Nicole Elliott, Matthew, Christopher, Koryn and Garrett Karmazin; his mother, Lillie Karmazin, Nelson; three sisters, Mrs. Bernard Svoboda(Mildred) and Mrs. Alan Ziggafoos (Loretta), Lawrence, and Joan Schnieder, Hastings; two brothers, Robert Karmazin of Lawrence and Willard Karmazin, Nelson; as well as many other relatives. The rosary service was from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel Monday at 8 p.m. Father Frank Machovec officiated at the funeral and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Full military graveside rites were presented by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Superior.
