Gene was born on a farm in Millard on Oct. 18, 1921, to Felix and Henrietta (Prinz) Whiteaker. His family, including five brothers and sisters, moved several times before settling in Eugene, Ore., where Gene graduated from high school. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, and after the war, returned to Elkhorn, where he married Alice McArdle in 1947, and had two daughters: Patricia and Katherine. He worked as a truck driver for local companies in Elkhorn. In 1955, the family resettled in Denver, where Gene continued to be employed as a line driver. Upon his retirement in 1979, Alice and Gene moved to Fremont where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and helping his son-in-law farm. Gene is the beloved father of Patricia Whiteaker, Katherine (Steve) Sarada, and stepdaughter Joyce Petersen. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer; great-grandson, James; brother, Lloyd Whiteaker; and other family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; stepson, Gerald Otte; stepdaughter, Virginia Jensen; and son-in-law, Marvin Petersen. Masonic rites will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn, followed by the funeral. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
