Kerns, 78, Wednesday afternoon, October 27, at 2 p.m. at the family home and at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Plover, with the Rev. L. G. Gartner officiating. The many and beautiful floral tributes were arranged by Mesdames R. E. Houck, P. T. Comer and W. R. Iler. Eugene W. Kerns was born August 20, 1870, at Northup, Ohio, and died at his home in Plover, October 25, after a lingering illness. He was a member of the Plover Methodist church. On September 18, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Zella Northup at Fairfield, Gallia county, Ohio. They established their home near Northup. Five years later they moved to Iowa locating on a farm in Dallas county near Grimes. After residing there five years they moved to Palo Alto county on the farm they purchased and where they lived until moving to Plover two years ago. To this union three children were born. Those surviving besides his wife are Paul of Rolfe, Earl of Plover, and Lucille, Mrs. Wm. Goodchild, of Havelock. He is also survived by two brothers, B. A. Kerns of Rolfe, Henry Kerns of Gallipolis, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. W. P. Rohrbach of Cedar Rapids, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Four sisters, Maud, Rose, May and Florence and three grandchildren preceded him in death. Mrs. and Mrs. Kerns celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 19 at their home in Plover. He was a charter member and director of the People’s Mercantile store, a member of the Plover shipping association, the Modern Woodmen of America and the Plover Elevator Co. He took an active interest in all community affairs as long as his health permitted. He was highly respected by his neighbors and friends and was a kind and loving husband and father. Mr. Kerns was a very unselfish man and always had a kind word to say for his fellow man. His life long ambition was the raising of livestock. Out of town relatives in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. W.
