While a child she moved with her parents to Okabena, Minnesota, and grew to womanhood on a Minnesota homestead. She married William J. Jones in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on June 20, 1887, which union was blessed with 10 children, three of whom died in infancy. McNair was born August 17, 1870, near Decorah, Iowa. Her parents were Peter McNair and Mary Free McNair. While a child she moved with her parents to Okabena, Minnesota, and grew to womanhood on a Minnesota homestead. She married William J. Jones in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on June 20, 1887, which union was blessed with 10 children, three of whom died in infancy. After 28 years of continuous residence at Herron Lake, Minnesota, she came to Montana in 1914 with her husband and lived 12 years of her active life on a homestead 11 miles south of Hingham. During the past few years she was at home with her son William at Fort Benton and during the past summer lived in her property here in Hingham. A deep tinge of sorrow was felt by many old time friends Sunday when word was received from a Great Falls hospital advising the passing of Mrs. Eva Jones, who had undergone a surgical operation there on the previous Monday. Her daughter, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Soll was at her bedside when she died. In the passing of Mrs. Eva Jones this community has lost a highly esteemed matron, whose pioneering days both here and in Minnesota, had molded a gentle and understandable character and a true philosophy of life. She enjoyed the love and kindly attention bestowed upon her by her loved ones. Mrs. Jones is survived by the following sons and daughters: Walter W. Jones, Harlem; Mrs. Jessie Borden, River Falls, Wisconsin; Alvah L. Jones, Hingham; William J. Jones, Fort Benton; John Paul Jones, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. William Soll, Helena, and Victor E. Jones, Hingham. She is also survived by a brother, Harvey L. Prescott of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
